Vacuum Drying: Vacuum Drying evaporates liquid from a solution or mixture under vacuum pressure. One advantage of using vacuum drying is that drying can be accomplished at a lower temperature than is required at atmosphere pressure.
Vacuum drying is ideal for materials that would be damaged or changed if exposed to high temperatures or where a solvent must be recovered or where materials must be dried to very low levels of moisture. Vacuum drying safely removes moisture while preventing the oxidation or explosions that can occur when certain materials combine with air.
Vacuum Bake-Out: Many high and ultra high vacuum applications as well as high purity applications require parts that are free from absorbed volatile materials that may contaminate the system. A vacuum bake-out is a process used to remove such contaminants from products. Absorbed water vapor is the most common contaminant. Applying surface heat (normally up to 200° C) is required to successfully complete a vacuum bake-out process. The removal of impurities allows vacuum-baked components to be used in ultra-high vacuum or ultra-high purity systems without fear of contamination. Heat is used to help release impurities and other contaminants, from components in a closed system (vacuum chamber), while a vacuum pump removes those impurities.
